Group images by directory

So I have this checked in settings (settings > Image > "Group images by directory") because I seek to understand which subdirectory the files resides (it could be 5 levels deep). The gallery gives no visual indication of the subdirectory but I see that the files are ordered appropriately by folder/subfolder. This is sort, not grouping (visually seeing the grouping of files within each folder). Am I missing something?

@rdaaron You're right, this setting is not visually grouping, just sort by directory first, then by other criteria.
