Current version lists types of software that can be recorded in CRIS as:

  • Open-source software
  • Closed source software for which executables can be made available
  • Software projects which are unable to make any outputs available, but which can be publicly acknowledged
  • Software projects which can not be publicly disclosed

We could achieve more clarity if we can make use of Software Citation Implementation Working Group classification:

  • Open source/closed source
  • Published/Unpublished
  • Version/Concept
and describe metadata which authors should specify dependently on the combination of these parameters.
