close STG menu after selecting group in sidebar

With horizontal tabs the STG menu automatically closes after selecting a new group. With vertical tabs in the sidebar the STG menu does not close when a new group is selected. This requires an additional click and move of the mouse. Plus the esc shortcut does not close the menu as it does with menus on the horizontal bar.

Not sure if this is a Firefox or STG thing.
